Political Council Museum introduction

The memorial hall of the site of the first political conference in Northern Jiangsu is located at No. 164, middle street, Hai'an City, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, it was the main hall of a Buddhist nunnery. Later, the Kuomintang set up district party headquarters and district offices here. It was established as "Zhongshan Memorial Hall" in 1936. In March 1982, the site of the first political conference in Northern Jiangsu was announced as a provincial cultural relics protection unit.

On November 15, 1940, in order to consolidate and expand the Anti Japanese Democratic base areas in Northern Jiangsu, under the guidance of Liu Shaoqi, Secretary of the Central Plains Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Chen Yi, commander in chief of the northern Jiangsu headquarters of the New Fourth Army, the "Northern Jiangsu temporary political participation meeting" was held in Hai'an Zhongshan Hall. Liu Shaoqi, Chen Yi, Guan Wenwei, Huang Yifeng, Han Guojun and others attended the meeting. The meeting discussed major issues such as uniting the war of resistance against Japan, implementing rent reduction during the "Five Year Plan" and establishing an anti Japanese democratic regime. It adopted the policy agenda and decided to establish an Interim Administrative Committee in Northern Jiangsu and establish a "three three three system" regime under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

On July 1, 2021, with the active advocacy of Hai'an municipal Party committee and municipal government, the memorial hall at the site of the first Political Council in Northern Jiangsu was completed and officially opened to the outside world. The exhibition in the museum is divided into four chapters: "east to East", "red flag", "river and sea mainstay" and "bright stars". Nearly 100 revolutionary historical objects such as selected poems of Chen Yi, conference documents and attendance cards of the provisional Political Council in Northern Jiangsu were displayed in the memorial hall.

The first political participation conference in Northern Jiangsu is the symbol of establishing the Anti Japanese democratic regime in the northern Jiangsu base area under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. It is also the symbol of the extensive Anti Japanese national united front composed of democratic parties and patriots at all levels. The historical contribution made by the first political participation conference of Northern Jiangsu in line with the original intention of the Communist Party of China to seek happiness for the working masses will go down in history forever.
